Rob Saunders: MAIKA – DESERT GOLD

Rob Saunders contacted Puppeteers Unite about his latest music video for Norwegian band Maika. Rob met the band while puppeteering for the Information Album tour with Beck.  Maika sent him the song and the lyrics along with an idea they had for a music video.

Rob explains:
“The video is about searching, love, betrayal…digging in the desert…searching for something…but not quite sure what happens when we find it. Rob developed the idea over a few days of a lone traveller searching for a treasure…and once he finds it he discovers the price for the treasure is that he must replace the one he sets free.”

Rob’s career is very extensive. He was a puppeteer since the age of 13, attended the University of Connecticut’s Puppet Arts Program where he received a BFA in Puppetry. His body of work is a statment towards his love for puppetry.

“This is all I have ever done, building and performing puppets.  But what I really always wanted was to create work and bring people in to help me with that vision. Directing seems to be the best place for me to do that, so I am focusing my Directing Career on new works with puppets and animation.

I am grateful for the chance to create something…and I hope that the positive reviews of the “Desert Gold” video is a sign of great things to come!”
